After effect 25.4 // EXR issue with thin 1 pixel lines empty on each frame

Hello there,

We are experiencing rendering issues with our EXRs in After Effects 25.4.

Our images appear with several horizontal black lines at regular intervals, dividing the vertical image into 14 equal horizontal segments.
These lines are 1 pixel high and transparent.

The rendered EXRs do not present any rendering issues in Photoshop or After Effects 25.3.2.

The EXRs are high resolution (4984x3584 pixels), come from 3dsmax/Vray, and are encoded in DWAB.

Given that patch note 25.4 specifies improvements to EXR processing, it is possible that this is where the problem lies.
No effect are in the scene, no nothing. Only the EXR sequence.
The lines are not necessarily visible at the top of the composition and do not appear on all frames. However, they always appear in the same place in the composition over time.

I have, of course, tried all the usual methods to remove these lines from the rendering, but I have not been successful. Purging all the data, switching to Mercury, changing the interpretation of the footage...

Unfortunately, I can't provide a complete screenshot of the problem, but I've attached a small section of the rendered image.

I don't think the issue is present in all EXR renderings. I quickly tried other renderings in 3840x3840 and the line issue didn't seem to be present.

Thanks for your time and feedback,
Best,
Nicolas

25.5 and the lines are still there.
Revert back to 25.3.2

PS : We are also stuck with Nvidia drivers 576.80 (because of our 3D pipeline). It might be something.

Hello,

This definitely looks like a problem reading EXR files with SLI cards on our end (although some seem to have similar errors with non-SLI cards).
We ran some more tests today on other workstations, and for now, only SLI workstations seem to have the problem with EXR.
We have therefore decided to stay with 25.3.2 until the problem is patched.

Best,
Nicolas

I downgraded to 25.3.2 and it immediatley solved the issue. I do not have dual GPUs for what it's worth running a single A3000

I am experiencing this issue also - inconsistencies with EXR sequences and After Effect in 25.4 - previous versions were fine.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the quick feedback and suggestion.
I'll try your idea as soon as I can. I'm obvisouly in a middle of a production and I don't have the time yet to update my build and deactivate one of my GPU to run a test ut it will be done for sure as soons as possible.

I'll keep you in touch,
Nicolas

Hi Nicolas,

Thanks for the question. I suspect it may have to do with your GPU, the dual GPU. Can you run your computer on one of the GPUs as a test? Let me know if it works.

Thanks,
Kevin
