After Effects 2022 (22.2.1) All Caps Issue

After updating to 22.2.1 build 3 I've got strange problem with "All Caps" feature in Character control.
Some letters are "caps" and some are not, some letters can be made bold after that and some not. No issues like that were present in previous version.

See attached file. If font is anything else that "Regular" "All caps" is tottaly crazy.

    Hi everyone. Have fun to see this bug second year.
    Any methods to fix it are not working, but…

    1. I see it in projects from AE 24-26.
    2. OTF type fonts.

    I solve it (i hope, to solve) by 2 steps.

    1. Clean all text attributes by script:

      var l2 = obj.property("Source Text").value;
      var l3 = obj.property("Source Text").value;

      l2.resetCharStyle();
      for (var key in l3)
          try
              {l2[key] = l3[key];}
          catch (err) {}
      obj.property("Source Text").setValue(l2);

    obj is a your text layer link, like obj = app.project.item(1).layer(1);

    this script reinits all text settings and repair it again, some dirty properties will be cleaned.

    1. Sure the AllCaps and fauxBold tuned OFF
    2. enter a simple expression text.sourceText.toUpperCase()

    will works.

    Version 26, the problem is fixed... nah just kidding, Adobe has other things to do, like adding features I don't need.

    Can confirm this issue is still around in 2025.4.0

    This is a pretty serious issue, and the fact that Adobe isn't taking it seriously at all is just ... sad.

    it's a strange issue, some update versions are prone to act this way, some are never experiencing it...

    I don't think it has anything to do with the versions. The text rendering system in AE is buggy as hell, and hasn't been updated in years. I am pretty sure this particular bug, which is one of many, is persistent. But since it only occures erradically, and because the AllCaps feature is not necessarily something a lot of people use often, it only rears it's head with some irregularity.

    Still a problem in 25.3.0 (build 71).

     

    Encountered it today first. After Ae had crashed for another reason. The text was fine all day, but now suddenly can't be capitalized as a whole...

    Does the expression 

     

    value.toUpperCase();
// or try with your country code or en_US
value.toLocaleUpperCase('fr-FR');

     

    fix the problem?

     

    I went through all my fonts, and there are only two that cause issues, and it's only with accents.

    Well would you look at that. 2 years later and i havent seen a solution. I have ran into this issue for months and just worked around it. im tired of doing that. i take it no one has figured out what is going on? i would chaulk it up to TTF vs OTF files but in this case it is a font directly from Adobe Fonts. same issue though, i type something and force caps in heavy type face, then i change it to regular and the whole thing breaks. upper, lower, even throws in a random font file like times new roman. help!!

    Which version (build) are you currently having the problem with? 
    I have also been frustrated with this for 2 years. No solution. The only workaround I have been doing is installing old versions of AE. I've also got lost in which versions this prblem occurs and in which doesn't so I've wasted so much time installing and uninstalling, trial end error. There's a new version, I update, problem occurs, then I go back and try to find an olde one which is ok. Totally stupid and so frustrating.

    I just upgraded to latest version last Friday. CC25 but i have had the issues going back as far as CC22. but it was random and didnt effect a lot. Now i fee like its hapenning more and more. Its when it happened to an Adobe sanctioned font that it really started to bother me. My workaround so far is to type the font exactly how you want it in PS, then copy and paste into AE. the funny part is as soon as you change the family, the font breaks, and when you change it back, the break follows. LOL. we pay for this??!! So good luck. but so far, that seems to be doing the trick.

    Had the same issue today. Details of how I think the issue happens below.
    Text had been animated using Source Text keyframes. I had later changed the font using expressions.

    Each keyframe has "ALL CAPS" applied in the character burger menu.

    Most, but not all capital "D" and "L" were turned lowercase after exporting to media encoder.

    I also tried adding all caps into the exporessions panel. This sometimes changed certain characters back to the original font, not the font specified in the expression panel.

     

    Resolution: I've found that the video renders normally in aftereffects render queue, the issue seems to be with Media Encoder, or maybe whatever dynamic link thing-a-magig is doing.

    Please dont come for me for my workflow! I'm just a graphic designer trying to get by!
