After Effects 2026 UI micro-freezes on workstation

System specs
Intel Core Ultra 9
Asus TUF GAMING Z890-PLUS
Corsair Vengeance 128 GB RAM
Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB M.2
Asus ProArt RTX 4070 Ti (latest driver installed)
Windows 11 Pro 25H2

I read that the Windows 11 update KB5074109 can be problematic.

Since installing After Effects 2026, the interface lags and freezes.
Sometimes it blocks for a few seconds.
Sometimes it’s small delays, but frequent enough to make work annoying.

This happens even with low system usage.
CPU and GPU are not under load.

……...

I would also prefer fewer updates, but more stable ones.
Not yearly changes that break workflows.
In reality, we have to follow updates because clients update, it a ecosystems change, and compatibility issues appear if i am not on the same as other.

I also feel that software companies focus too much on data collection.
The software feels heavier, slower, and less focused on user experience.
As a user, I don’t feel like the customer anymore.
It feels like investors and data are the priority.

Hi maxarch3,

Sorry to hear about the issue and thanks for writing in.

Can you share a few more details to help isolate the cause? Does this happen in a new blank project, or only in specific files? Are there any third-party plug-ins installed? If possible, can you share a screen recording that shows the issue?

In the meantime, please try updating your GPU drivers and testing under File > Project Settings > Video Rendering & Effects by switching between GPU Acceleration and Mercury Software Only. Also, try running After Effects in Safe mode with third-party plug-ins disabled.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Nishu
