After Effects can't continue: Advanced 3D plug-in generated an unexpected exception

Hello, i tried to switch my 3d renderer from classic to advanced 3d to extrude shapes, but it immidiately crashes every time i'm trying to do it. Classic 3d render works fine though.

To fix this problem i tried: clear all types of cache 1 by 1; update my NVIDIA drivers; deleted and reinstalled my NVIDIA drivers, disabled CUDA in AE, deleted and reinstalled AE multiple times with different versions from 25.1 to 25.3 and none of this helped. However earlier i could use Advanced 3d renderer in my projects and import 3d objects into them.

My PC specs - xeon e5 2680v4 and GeForce GTX 1650 Super. Also I do not use any plug-ins. What can i do else?

Hi @mohammeda19178666

What exact version of AE are you using? Also, do you have the GTX 1650?

Could you please read my post above, follow the instructions, then DM me your log? Also, I have another troubleshooting step that might get us more information.

Can you check your cache folder for a folder called "SentryIO-db"?
On Windows, please enter this path in your Explorer address bar (with the % symbols)

%localappdata%\Temp\Adobe\After Effects\25.0\SentryIO-db
This path depends on the version of AE you're using. If you're using AE Beta, then the path will be "After Effects (Beta)." But even if you're using, say, version 25.4, the Sentry folder should still be in the "25.0" folder.

Could you please zip this folder and DM it to me? You'll have to send a file sharing link, as our DM system doesn't allow for uploading attachments.

Thanks,

Thanks for sending those logs. Unfortunately, they didn't contain any info about a crash. Before you collected them, were you able to get AE to crash, or did it just produce errors when switching to Advanced 3D?

Also, you said this didn't start happening until recently. Do you remember what version it started with, and if you might have changed something else about your system around the time the crash started happening? We have seen a number of issues from folks with the GTX 1650. Did you have this GPU when you weren't experiencing the crash?

Thanks,

Hello David,
No i didn't submit any crash reports because every time it happens, Ae offers me to save my project with another name, and immediately closes after that, not showing any crashes after next launch.

This is happening with all projects, moreover - i tried to install all AE25 versions and last AE24 version and it crashes on all of them when i switch from classic 3d to advanced, and even in safe mode too.

Maybe there is some issues with my GPU but to stress tested it in Furmark and OCCT and it works fine, no overheat or artifacts.
Until recently Ae Advanced rendering worked fine, but i've noticed that in Premiere dynamic link with Ae was greyed out because theirs versions were unmatched, so i installed both of them 25.3 and from this moment AE 3d render crashes every time, however dynamic link from Ae to Pe was fixed.

Hi @abc_4020

Sorry to hear you're crashing. Have you submitted a crash report with your email address? If so, could you please DM me the email you use so I can check our logs?

Also, is this happening with all projects or just a specific one? What happens if you open AE in Safe Mode to temporarily use default preferences, does the problem still happen?

The crash reporter will likely be the most helpful, but also, you can DM me logs. Here's how to get those:

  • Open the Help menu
  • Select "Enable Logging" and close AE when prompted.
  • Relaunch AE and reproduce the issue. e.g. Switch to Advanced 3D.
  • Go to "C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\After Effects\25.3\logs"
  • Upload and share a link to the "After Effects Log.txt" file in the "logs" folder

To keep the logs as clean as possible, make sure you don't do anything except reproduce the issue.

Thanks,
