After Effects can't continue advanced 3d plugin generated an unexpected exception

Hello,

I am getting an error when enabling Advanced 3D in After Effects. I have spent the whole day trying to fix the issue and have tried all solutions I could find online, but nothing helped.

My PC fully supports Advanced 3D:
RTX 3080 / AMD Ryzen 7 5700X

What I have done so far:

1. Completely uninstalled all Adobe applications from my PC, including cleaning the registry, caches, and all leftover files.
2. Replaced the NVIDIA Game Ready driver with the Studio driver.
3. Tried all possible settings in After Effects, including a full reset of preferences.
4. Attempted to run After Effects without any plugins or third-party scripts.

Please help me resolve this issue. Thank you in advance.

Glad it worked! You definitely have a less common setup by installing to a folder inside another drive, but we'll have to take a look at this issue.

This was a very unexpected fix 🙂
The folder with all adobe apps was written in Russian, I just changed it to English and everything worked perfectly. Thanks for your help! Really appreciate it.

Hi @Anonymous,

Sorry to hear you're running into this, and thanks for the logs. This looks similar to a crash with Advanced 3D that we fixed earlier this year. That crash dealt with Windows usernames containing Unicode characters. Based on your log, I see that your username doesn't contain Unicode characters, but your AE install path does

  1. Could you let me know the name of the folder on your E:\ drive that contains your "Adobe After Effects 2025" folder?
  2. If you change the name of the folder with the Unicode characters (no need to touch the "Adobe After Effects 2025" folder), then relaunch AE. Does the crash still occur?

Thanks,

Hello! When I click OK, it simply prompts me to save and then just closes After Effects. In safe mode everything is the same. I'll send you the logs now, thanks for your reply.

Sorry to hear about the issue.

What happens when you click OK? Does it crash? If so, do you see the crash reporter afterward? If yes, provide your email ID to it and submit.

Also, is this happening with all projects or just a specific one? What happens if you open AE in Safe Mode to temporarily use default preferences, does the problem still happen?

The crash reporter will likely be the most helpful, but also, you can DM me logs. Here's how to get those:

  • Open the Help menu
  • Select "Enable Logging" and close AE when prompted.
  • Relaunch AE and reproduce the issue. e.g. Switch to Advanced 3D.
  • Go to "C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\After Effects\25.3\logs"
  • Upload and share a link to the "After Effects Log.txt" file in the "logs" folder

To keep the logs as clean as possible, make sure you don't do anything except reproduce the issue.

Thanks,
Nishu
