After Effects Comp window freezes up and outline around image is stuck.

Greetings,

I find myself with a rather difficult situation to workthrough and could use whatever advice anyone is willing to give. 

 

After Effects will open and when I import an image and drop it into a new composition the comp becomes frozen. I can close the window and open it back up but the lines around the image are still there. When I close the program and attempt to re-open nothing happens. If I attempt to uninstal the program after this happens Adobe alerts me that After Effects must be closed before uninstalling. If I open task manager to verify that it is not open After Effects is not listed amongst the running applications. 

Here are my specs. This is a brand new build. 

 

Windows 11 Pro

Intel i7 13000KF (Includes Intel UHD) 

64 GB DDR4

2 TB Samsung M.2. SSD

AMD Radeon WX3200 4GB 

After Effects 23.2.1

Hi Matthew,

 

Sorry for your issue.

Is it happening only when you import media? Does After Effects work better with the Solid/Text layers? Could you try switching to Mercury Software Only (File > Project Settings) or disabling Hardware Accelerated Composition, Layers, and Footage Panels (Edit > Preferences > Display)? If that does nothing, try resetting the preferences.

I attempted AE 2022 and had the same problem. There seems to be some issue with opening other apps. But I do not know if these issues area connected.
