After Effects crashes constantly, needs backup saving

After Effects crashes more than anything I have ever worked with in my life. Including Windows ME. It crashes itself and sometimes the entire computer. It crashes multiple times for even small projects. The worst part is it has NO backup or automatic saving at all. I don't think to save as often because NONE of my other applications crash like this. The only thing I can think of is Ableton sometimes, but that stopped when I upgraded my RAM to 64 GB. That didn't help with Adobe After Effects at all. It still crashes on the regular, and when it does it takes 99% of my 64 GBs.

It just happened because I tried to change an outside color on an Audio Spectrum effect. Come on.

Anyways, whatever the crash reason is, it would help if After Effects had some auto saving feature in the background. Even Ableton does that, and honestly I've only needed it a couple of times. After Effects is so unstable I would say backup saves are a necessity.

Thanks for telling me about the auto-save. That will help.

No plugins or anything unusual. Usually nothing open in the background but Chrome sometimes. I try to trim as many apps as I can so I can dedicate resources to AE. All my AE devices have been Windows 10 and Nvidia cards. This one in particular is an RTX 2080. I will try updating my drivers and see if it helps.

Hi @Thomas5FD1,

Thank you for making this post and reporting these issues. After Effects does have an auto-save feature—by default, it is set to save a backup of the current project every 20 minutes in an "Adobe After Effects Auto-Save" folder next to the open project file. The preferences for changing the timing of the auto-save and the auto-save location are in Preferences > Auto-Save.

That said, it sounds like After Effects is having serious issues with stability on your system. When After Effects crashes, have you been able to submit a crash report with your email address? Additionally, do you have third-party plug-ins currently installed, even if they are not being used in the current project?

Thanks again for posting and for any additional information you can offer,
