After Effects crashing/hanging

Hi,

Have a brand new laptop (ROG Zephyrus G16 2025 -Ultra 9 285h, 64gb RAM, Geforce RTX 5070 Ti) and have just installed Creative Cloud apps and AE.

 

Have an open file shared by client, which I  can open and render (if  I don't make any changes), but as soon as I move one element and try and make a change, AE then freezes. I can't render, and view display doesn't react and can't even shut down AE through Task Manager... 

I have updated the graphics driver. 
Any one have ideas as to how to fix? 
What other info do you  need from me to diagnose?

Hey there @CeePeeJhb sorry to hear this is happening. Two things:

 

  1. Are you able to send me this entire project with assets? If so, it will only be used within the team to diagnose the problem. If you are able to, please feel free to DM me a Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud, OneDrive, etc. link.
  2. We just introduced a new preference to maintain your current workspace when opening a project. I'm wondering if there's an issue with the project while it's trying to open the client's workspace. Can you try opening AE without the project and going to Preferences > General > Maintain current workspace when opening projects?

    If enabling this setting does allow you to open the project without issue, it would be really helpful if you could send it to us for investigation.
