After Effects error: crash occurred while invoking plug-in "mocha ProAEAEGP".

Working on Mac Studio M1 Ultra.

For several weeks now, and more specifically since the 25.5 update of After Effects, even when I'm not using Mocha Pro in my projects, After Effects sometimes crashes for no reason, displaying the message

“After Effects error: crash occurred while invoking plug-in ‘mocha ProAEAEGP’.”

I've tried all the solutions I've found in the forums: caps lock, clearing the cache, starting in safe mode, installing an earlier version of AE 2025... nothing works.

Please do something, thank you.

What do you do if you cant even open AE due to that error?

It auto asks to send report and pressing either buttons causes AE to shut right down.
I've gone as far back as 25.0 and this problem persists.

Its def not file related, I tried making a new empty project and it shuts right down due to that mochaproaeaegp error.

I will try to uninstall mocha pro now.

Hi,

Thanks for the post. Here are a few things that you may not have tried yet.

  • Clear Mocha Cache

    • Open the Mocha plug-in inside AE.
    • Go to File > Clear Cache, select all options, and confirm.
    • Then purge AE’s cache via Edit > Purge > All Memory & Disk Cache.
  • Try the Public Beta

    • Try installing the latest public beta via Creative Cloud to test if the issue persists.
  • Use Standalone Mocha Pro

    • If tracking is needed, consider using the standalone version of Mocha Pro instead of the plug-in. This avoids AE’s dependency on the plug-in during launch or render.
  • Roll Back AE Version

    • Some users have had success reverting to AE 25.4 or earlier. AE 25.5 introduced several crash fixes, but also new bugs, especially on Mac systems.

Please let me know if any of these workarounds helped. Sorry for the hassle.

Thanks,
Kevin
