After Effects Freezes after some time with error: "Direct2D Drawbot Error. HRESULT:-2005270523"

I have updated the latest graphics card driver, but this problem still occurs.

We've identified the HRESULT:-2005270523 error as DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED, which occurs when the GPU device has been removed, potentially as a result of a driver crash. Updating GPU drivers is typically prescribed as the best fix, so please give that a try and let us know if the error continues to occur.

@Thiago Guimarães The 555.99 driver is from last June, so there may be a more recent one available.

If updating your GPU drivers does not stop the error from occuring, please let us know the version you've updated to and what GPU you are using (if you haven't let us know already).

Same problem here.. 

I am having this same error....It pops up with I try to edit text in a brand new comp.

I have the same error rightnow, i can't even use after effects. It always crash when i'm switching to browser or outside AE. Please fix this ASAP

Thank you reporting that you're seeing this error as well, @âniag15099062, @Equinox_2311, and @ConstantinMaier. My suspicion is that it is potentially third-party panels which might be drawing UI in a way not supported in the updated interface. Does closing all third-party panels fix the issue for any of you?

Ever since updating to AE 2025, I frequently (about every hour or more) get this error:

It's not even that I'm doing anything and the error appears. I can simply just start up AE, load a project and AE crashes immediately.

I'm on AE 25.1. 3rd party tools in my interface are KeenTools, rd_GimmePropPath and Workflower.

Other specs:

Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 23H2
OS build 22631.4460

Processor AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor 3.70 GHz
Installed RAM 64.0 GB

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER

I have had the same issue just now. I installed a new font to use for a university project and now every time I scroll anywhere near that font in the font-selection the Direct2D Drawbot error comes up

I had the same error with the 2025 version...

It's OK now in the new version, no more error.

The only error I have is with some plugins (I don't know, maybe Stardust and Shadow Studio 3), and when I quit After Effects or I click on another software, After Effects froze and then it makes a black screen. I force quit After effects, and then 10 seconds after, my screens blink and it's go back to normal.

Did you see that problem already?
