After Effects Lagging when moving objects around

I open up After Effects like normal and can animate etc also rendering fine.

Its frustrating when i move shapes around the screen it lags alot.

Is this to do with the AMD 9070 not optimised for it yet?

I change the GPU Sniffer to GPU Sniffer 123 and it works like butter.

Pc specs:

Amd Ryzen 5 7600x

32gb Ram 6000mhz

m.2 7000mbs

Amd 9070

850w power

Is there another solution this weird laggy bug without changing the GPU Sniffer name?

I'm using 9070tx and having the same issue, solved by renaming it to skip it.

Which means my AE 2025 cannot recognize the GPU.

Please fix it asap.......... It's really frustrating. I spent 2 days figuring out what causes the lag.

Thanks very much @robw38316308, that is extremely helpful. We now have a ticket open to investigate what might be causing the laggy state in conjunction with GPUSniffer.

Thanks again,

Hi @robw38316308,

Thank you for reporting this issue. It sounds like the GPUSniffer is reporting unexpected or incorrect values, which impacts how After Effects can utilize the GPU.

If possible, could you share the output of the GPUSniffer.exe when you run it directly using the Command Prompt?

Follow these steps to see the output of GPUSniffer:

  1. Open "C:\Program Files\Adobe\After Effects 2025\Support Files" in Explorer
  2. Type "cmd" (without quotes) in the address bar and press Enter to open the Command Prompt to the Support Files folder.
  3. Type "GPUSniffer.exe" and press Enter. (If you've renamed GPUSniffer, type the new name).

This should print out detailed GPU specs for your system, which would be hugely helpful in our investigation into why you're currently needing to rename the GPUSniffer to get smooth performance.

Thank you again for reporting this issue and for any further information,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team

Okay so I recently "upgraded" my gpu from a nvidia 2080ti to an amd 7600xt.  I have been experience intense lag just creating/moving around shapes, using the pen tool, simple things with just one layer in use.  It's a bit ridiculous.  In the last couple of days, I've ran through the internet trying all the basics of fixes from AE preferences to settings.  Nothing worked.  All my drivers and etc are updated.  I have plenty of RAM.  A dedicated drive for my cache(and all purged).  Even uninstalled all my amd driver software programs(Adrenaline n AMD pro software) cuz I saw somewhere that it could be the cause.  But nope....nothing...Not until I came accross a thread on Reddit that said something about renaming a support file in the AdobeAfterEfx called gpusniffer.exe by just adding 123.  And boom no more lag.  This is so great but truly infuriating.  What is actually going on?  What changes by just renaming this exe.  It doesn't make sense to me.  And after a bit of experimenting renaming the file and un-renaming it;  It seems as If my gpu is actually doing it job cuz it shows in the task bar.

Does anyone know how this works in my situation.

Hi MannieX,

Have you removed the drivers of your previous GPU? I'd suggest removing the residue files manually. If it doesn't help, change the gpusniffer file name back to the original. Once done, open After Effects go to After Effects Preferences > Memory & Performance > GPU Information and share a screenshot.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,
Nishu

Hey there,

Yes, I removed my drivers from the previous GPU.  But I will go back in and try and make sure that they're all gone.  I've also remember looking at the GPU info through AE before the GPUsnifferf fix and remembering that it noted the right amount of VRAM but no other GPU info.  Just a bunch of weird numbers.  Will share a screenshot asap
