After Effects permanent crashing

Since I have a more powerful computer, After Effects crashes constantly during the simplest tasks like creating a mask. I have to restart the computer every two minutes while working. The computer has an AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX 16-Core Processor, 100 GB of RAM, and an RTX 5080 graphics card. All drivers are up to date. When I perform the same tasks on the old computer (Intel, 40 GB of RAM, RTX 3080), I have no problems. What could be the reason for that?

Yes, I tried old versions, but it’s still not working. I also contacted Adobe Support, but even after changing all the settings, it didn’t work.

Have you tried installing different versions? Maybe precious 2025 version?

I recently purchased a new laptop with the following configuration: Ultra 9 processor, 64 GB RAM, 3 TB SSD, and an RTX 5070TI graphics card. Despite this powerful setup, I am still facing the same issues in After Effects. I have reinstalled the latest version of After Effects multiple times, as well as updated and reinstalled the NVIDIA drivers. All other software runs perfectly fine, but After Effects continues to crash, hang, and perform poorly even during simple tasks, without using any plugins.

Hello Nishu,
Unfortunately, the problem still persists. After Effects was freshly installed, no plugins. When I start a new project, it seems to be more stable for a short time. After 10 minutes of work, I have to restart the programme after each step.
Cache, RAM, everything is set up correctly and there is sufficient capacity.

Yes, try to create a new project and import some new media, and see how it goes.

Is it a fresh install of After Effects?

Have you tried resetting After Effects preferences?

Same problem here with the RTX5080, Intel Core Ultra 9 24 core and 64 GB of RAM (57GB for adobe). Premiere Pro run smoothly when After Effect struggles to show the current frame of the composition i'm working on (or try to) and crashes constantly.

It could actually be related to the project. I currently have no opportunity to start a new project, if the problem persists, I'll get back to you. Many thanks so far!

Hi schwarzlicht,

Sorry to hear about the crash. Is it happening on every project? Are there any error messages or crash reports? Try running After Effects in Safe Mode and see if that brings any change. Here's how: https://adobe.ly/44tjP9d

Let me know.

Thanks,
Nishu
