After Effects V26 has memory leaks! I'm having to restart after 45 minutes of use. Undo is causing memory failures and crashes. I'm on an M1 Ultra Mac Studio w 128G RAM and a terabyte of dedicated scratch space.

Oh damn. Looks like they didn't fix that from 2025

AE's only hope is a complete rewrite.

And i'm willing to be a project lead. I can't code for crud but my experience is almost old enough to drink, and i'm experienced with several  other softwares currently becoming industry standard, and have done a little dev on one of them.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the issue. Could you share more details? What is actually happening? Does After Effects starts lagging? Are there any error messages? Is it happening with a particular project or all of them? Are there any third-party plug-ins installed? Have you tried running After Effects in Safe Mode and clearing media cache?

Let me know.

Thanks,

Nishu

Yeah, this is pretty well known. There have been these issues in the past, too. I assume it's some low level code from the 90's that doesn't play well when hooked up 5o modern API's. Every 2 or 3 versions we get something like this, or a crash, or not allocating memory right. I would just call it a risk of using software over 3 decades old on new hardware and operating systems.

That feels unacceptable for a subscription app that supposed to be a professional tool

Look, i said that in 2012 when mocha's code was never used to enhance tracking, when they removed the ability to just buy a version and keep it, when they removed multiframe rendering in 2015, when they removed MP4 output later, in 2023 when i tested the software and found in 10 years it had gotten nearly 25% slower, when they made a new 3D renderer instead of updating exr's to accept renders from 3D software.…

"This feels unnacceptable for a professional tool"

Is what we all say every update, because we're still waiting on GPU effects, though we've been flush with GPU's for TWO DECADES NOW.

This company makes billions a year, and can't even spare the R&D for a replacement after 30 years, but stacked chips on making artists use AI instead of actually using tools for what they were designed to do. I would NOT want to be a shareholder.

"Undo" is causing extreme slow downs and crashes within Adobe After Effects v26.0.0. I'm on a M1 Ultra Mac Studio (128GB RAM).
