After Effects won't stay open / closes right after launching

Every time I go to launch After Effects on my MacBook Pro, it will not stay open for longer than a second and immediately closes without any crash or error notifications.

I have tried many different things like uninstalling and reinstalling, launching in safe mode, resetting preferences, restarting the laptop, etc. Nothing seems to fix the problem. I have no plugins installed and have fully updated my Mac. 

Any suggestions would be really appreciated as I am in an After Effects class and need to get homework done, but cannot continue without fixing this issue.
