annoying interface refresh when you end full screen playback

You enable full screen playback and hit space to play, then space again to stop it playing fullscreen, the entire after effects interface refreshes completely and seems to cycle through every open composition and briefly shows the background apps behind AE and everything flashes blindingly bright for about a second. For no reason. This has been bugging me in after effects for years and years. Surely its possible to fix this?
Its easy to repro. Just play any footage fullscreen then stop playing it. (Working on windows 10 on a dual-screen setup)

Also re-iterating, please, please, please please please can we have a black background on full screen playback too.

Thanks!
R.

Hi @Ruairi Robinson X,

Thank you for the video of the behavior! We can also reproduce this same redrawing behavior, even with a single monitor (though it isn't as bad as with dual monitors). We now have a ticket open for further investigation into potential improvement when stopping full-screen previews.

Thanks again for reporting this issue,

My main workstation is running an rtx 4090 and its outputting 4k (4096x2160) on one monitor and uhd (3840x2160) on the second (mirrored on the third). Nvidia driver is 551.23

I have disabled mercury transmit currently because it doesn't work in aces (please fix this too!). Will dm you, thanks!

Hi @Ruairi Robinson X,

Thank you for reporting this issue. In other dual-monitor setups on Windows, we haven't seen this behavior. Would you be able to share a video of the behavior (perhaps filmed on a phone) so we can see it? Feel free to DM me a link here on the forums to keep it private.

Additionally, could you share a bit more info about your hardware and settings? E.g. what are the resolutions of your monitors, what GPUs are driving them, and what are your Video Preview preferences set to.

Thanks for any additional information you can offer,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team
