I have basically the same computer as yourself and have had crashing and freezing issues in the composition panel too. If you disable hardware acceleration and go with ‘mercury software only’ option I have found this solves the problem. I suspect it’s down to the 5090's and the drivers at the moment. I have had other problems in 3d software too. I am rolling back my studio driver to 572.83 as when I installed the newer ones my problems started. Apparently its the most stable one.

1. Is there a specific action/command that triggers the freeze/crash, or is it random?

2. Is it happening only with the projects that were created in the old version or with new projects as well?

3. Are there any crash reports or error messages? If yes, please share.

4. What's the version of the GPU driver that's installed on your computer?

Have you tried running After Effects in Safe Mode with third-party plug-ins disabled? If not, give that a try and let us know the results.

A friend of mine is having problems with AE 2025, where the screen keeps flickering in the Composition panel. This never happened before upgrading to 2025 and they have a high-spec PC... 😞

What's wrong with my PC specs which all versions of the 2025 release of After Effects will not run successfully on my machine?
Does anyone else have issues with After Effects crashing/hanging, where nothing works and then freezes?
