  • Steps to reproduce
    1. Create a composition.
    2. Import footage with a black background.
    3. Apply the built-in Unmult effect.
    4. Inspect the alpha channel.
  • Expected result
    • The alpha value should become 0 in transparent areas.
  • Actual result
    • A residual alpha value remains (equivalent to 1 in 8-bit). The issue also occurs in 16 bpc projects.
  • Environment
    • After Effects 26.0
    • Windows 11
  • Additional information
    • This issue does not occur with third-party Unmult plugins such as Knoll Unmult or Red Giant Unmult.

    Hi 00230810411jim7, thanks for the clear report. Be, I'd like to look into it a bit further to confirm whether this is a bug or expected precision behavior.

    A few questions before I take this to the AE team:

    1. Have you tested this on the latest AE version (26.3)? You mentioned 26.0 in your report, it's worth confirming the same behavior persists in current builds.

    2. Is it happening with a specific media? Can you share a screen recording that shows the issue?

    3. Are you inspecting the alpha via the Info panel, an alpha channel view, or something else?
