can't paste text into after effects

I can no longer copy text from illustrator and paste it into after effects.
It used to copy and paste, including formatting. But now nothing at all happens!

yes, if I highlight text from illustrator and copy it, I cannot then paste it into a text layer in after effects. I can’t paste text into a text layer in after effects from any other program either. I have managed to start after effects in safe mode and it allowed me to paste then. However I then reset the preferences etc and started it normally and it still doesn’t work

Please make sure to have clicked with the Text Tool before pasting.

Is your After Effects up to date?

Could you share your operating system and system specs with is please?

I am pasting into an empty text layer. (which is selected etc).
I’ve got macOS Tahoe 26.3 installed and using up to date after effects (26.3)

Hi alisons79155507,

Are you referring to having a text only selection in Illustrator and pasting that into a text layer in AE?

If not can you provide some more details about what type of objects are in the selection that isn’t working and what the selected target is (comp, layer) for pasting into AE?
