Character Panel freezes any time I change size, font, spacing, etc.

Hi all. I am having issues with the character panel in the updated AE. I can't change any of the parameters like font, font size, spacing, etc. without a 30 second to 1 minute lag. I can't even work with the new updates. I have to revert back to 2022 versions that did not have this issue. Any idea why this is happening? Does it recalibrate the fonts any time there is a change? I have read that several other people are having the same issue. Do you know when this will be fixed? Thanks so much!

    It is very difficult to debug these kind of behaviors because at least with fonts they seem very environment specific.

     

    Your thought that it is recalibrating the fonts every time IS a very good guess, and the Character Panel currently does do that.

     

    Are you always in this slow mode? Only at startup? Only when syncing from Adobe Fonts? When does it go away (if ever?) When with respect to changes to your environment did it start happening?

     

    I have been doing a lot of recent work to improve the font handling in After Effects and I would really, really, really like you to try a recent After Effects Beta release on your environment to see if there is any difference.

     

    But, you are busy professional and maybe cannot do that, which I understand.

     

    If the guess that the font environment is right, then one possible path for you is to reduce the number of fonts installed on your system to see if that reduces the time spent sorting out the fonts.
