Clicking expression editor field moves mouse pointer around in weird ways

I am using After Effects 23.2.1 (Build 3) on macOS 12.6.3 and when I click into the expression input field to edit the expression, further mouse click selections while editing the expression seem to be offset visually where I'd expect the click to land.

I think this has to do with the bracket cursor icon being registered incorrectly, but it causes me to accidentally select out of the expression editor field (in effect committing the change).

I have attached a screen recording of the issue I am describing. Sometimes I can get it to work, but other times it seems like the bracket cursor gets offset in a way that has me accidentally clicking outside of the edit area.

I do not experience this bracket cursor icon issue in other apps.

Hi all,

This issue was fixed in the 23.3 version of After Effects. Please let us know if you continue to experience this offset with the mouse pointer in that version or any more recent versions of After Effects.

Thanks again for making this report,

I am honored to see your reply, @Dan Ebberts! I have been following your expressions help / tutorials for going on.. 20 years now? Time flies...

Anyway, yes! It looks like the same issue! Sorry for the dupe report. I don't have access to the beta with my employer, and my home license is on Windows. So, it looks like I will be patiently waiting for the next update, and it's nice to know that there is already a fix to look foward to.

Thanks again and sorry for the dupe,

Leah

@Dan Ebberts This issue was not related to the non-monospace typeface bug in the Expression Editor, but that issue is fixed in the Beta as well and the fix should also be included in the next update to After Effects.

Hi @llealloo,

Thank you for reporting this issue. This is a known bug with a fix currently available in the latest After Effects (Beta) builds in the Beta apps tab of the Creative Cloud app. That fix should be included with the next update to After Effects if all users of the Beta continue to report no further problems with the fix. If you are able, please try installing the Beta build and let us know if you still encounter this issue.

Thanks again for reporting this issue,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team
