Color picker not accurate

I've updated After Effects to version 25.0.1, and now the color picker/eyedropper tool isn't picking the correct colors for shapes, text, etc. It’s close, but the hex codes don’t match exactly.

I'm selecting colors from the Library window within After Effects.
When I change the setting in After Effects > Preferences > General > system color picker, it does pick the correct color. However, I’d prefer not to use the system color picker—I want to use the default one.


This issue didn’t occur in the previous 2024 version of After Effects, where everything worked perfectly with the same project color settings and color management.

Has anyone else experienced this or found a solution?

    I've found that I can use color picker and pick the right color, but my mac display settings should be the native sRGB. 
    Custom monitor sRGB profile wont work. Only can use it precisely with sRGB native ICC.

    System color picker has been working for me, but I have to click the color preview window first. If I click the eyedropper icon, it'll use Adobe's built-in picker regardless of what I've done in the application settings.

     

    I really don't like having to rely on the system color picker, though. Lots of extra clicking involved.

    Same here... even using system color picker, it only picks right color inside AE comp (cant use library too).

      Hey Zack, any updates from your end on this? It's been almost a year and apparently this is still an issue. 

      Just got into trouble because of incorrect colors that I sampled from a Creative Cloud color library (colors in the library are correct but the color picker in AE 2025 samples them incorrectly)

        This is embarrassing, Adobe. You’re a huge company with plenty of resources available to fix something that is a real and glaring bug. 

         

        Good god. At least let us know you hear us.

          Having this same problem on Adobe After Effects Version 25.3.2 (Build 2)  as of July 29th, 2025. 

           

          Anyone else building replacement software for AE yet that I can $ fund so we can all stop using Adobe AE?

           

          Feels like Adobe gave up on their prosumer market a long time ago based on all the bugs this software continually has. I just dont see the same level of continual basic bugs with software developers like Maxon C4D and Da Vinci.

            I have had this issue for a long time now, and still remains. It's incredibly frustrating

             

            Also, why isnt there an easy way to copy the hex from your Colour library????

            Sort it out Adobe, a ridiculour bug to remain over multiple versions!

              They clearly cherry pick the issues they WANT to fix, not what people need fixed that is crippling to workflows.

                It’s insane. They’re so laser-focused on wowing people with future AI features that they’re completely ignoring those of professionals who actually rely on the core functions of their software. It’s 2026 now. This bug report was made in November of 2024. 

                 

                THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS NOT BEING FIXED.
