I have brought a new laptop, new MSI Stealth A16 - 5090 RTX, AMD Ryzen 9hx. For some reason when using after effects for just a minuet, the compositon will free, cant zoom, nothing updates. but the app contiunes working, I can add layers, add effects, delete, import.. but the compsiton freezes and I can see the zoom going up and down but nothing in the viewport changes, add new solid, nothing changes in the viewport.

After effects 2025 25.3.2

Windows

I have tried all the recommendations:

Clearing cache

ram allocation

disable gpu acceleration

updating drivers

video rending and effects

multiframe rendering off

Its a brand new laptop, any ideas?

I have been having the same issue. My professors have no clue what is happening and some of them have been in the industry for a decade or more. One of my classmates is starting to have the same issue as well. I know that people have suggested downgrading to NVIDIA Driver to v.573.22 but I don’t even know how to do that and that person said they were using After Effects 2005.3.2 so I feel like it's irrelevant.

exact same problem here.

Everything was fine until about a month ago and now the composition panel freezes after a few minutes of use. It can be a new project or an old one that worked before. Ive reinstalled AE, Ive cleared prefs, cache, gpu acceleration, Ive tried multiframe rendering off, I've updated drivers. Its basically unuseable.

Hi Radiant_Spirit,

Sorry to hear about your issue. What version of the GPU driver are you using? If it's the latest version, can you try installing an older version and see if that brings any change? One of the users who was having the same issue downgraded to version 573.22 and it worked for them. Here's the link to that thread: https://adobe.ly/4m85ZRp

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,
Nishu
