Crash on High End PC

Hello,

I am experiencing performance issues with Adobe After Effects everyday. AE is lagging significantly during use and while rendering, even when I am working in quarter resolution. Additionally, AE frequently crashes specially while rendering.

System Specifications

  • GPU: RTX 5070 Ti
  • RAM: 192 GB (yes 192GB)
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X
  • OS: Windows 11 Pro
  • Storage: 2x 2TB SSD NVMe + 2x 250GB SSD SATA

This issues with After Effects on my high-end PC that are impacting my ability to meet project deadlines. I recently upgraded from a MacBook Pro M3 to this high-end PC specifically to improve my After Effects workflow. However, I'm experiencing severe performance issues (even worse than on MacBook) that are impacting my ability to meet project deadlines.

    Rendering Failures

When attempting to render a medium-complexity 1.5-minute project, I have a 5070 Ti. AE freezes for about 2-5 min and i need to RESTART the pc or disconnect the session to close AE.

    Troubleshooting Steps Attempted

    • Updated GPU Studio drivers to latest version
    • Tested After Effects Beta version (same issues)
    • Allocated 170+ GB RAM to After Effects

I urgently need a solution to make this high-end hardware work properly with After Effects.

Yes, I have the latest NVIDIA drivers update and also latest windows updates.

And also disabled the AMD Graphics GPU.

I believe you have already upgraded your NVIDIA drivers, but if not, there are newer ones from Oct 14th.

Also check to see if you can / have disabled the AMD Graphics GPU that is built into your CPU. There has been issues in the past with an AMD + NVIDIA GPU in the same machine.

Thanks for your reply!

Could you help me explain how to fix this problem?

What should I do?

There is a line in the log about your GPU failing while setting up one of your effects:

Ticks = 29188 <46552> <GPU Render Pipeline> <1> Dry run of effect 'AE.S_HalfTone' on device NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti failed (err = -1609629695). GPU support for this effect+device will be disabled for this session.

This is a pretty good sign that something isn't right with the GPU. Maybe the driver, maybe the hardware itself.

The power supply isn't the problem. It's 1000W and is more than enough for my setup.

Right Now I just tried to render a video, AE froze and closed by itself without the usual pop up to send the report.

Here you have the Log Files: https://transfer.it/t/uQYDci5hFRCS

You could start with collecting a log file for us. Help -> Enable Logging, restart AE. Then do some tasks that hang. Then go to Help -> Reveal Log Files and find the "After Effects Log.txt" and post it back here.

My gut feeling is for you to check the power supply unit is sufficient for your hardware. But you should be able to check that. I'd guess you'd need 1000W for the hardware you have.
