Dialogs not opening at their last saved positions

I see that in ‘Fixed issues in After Effects’, in the ‘Fixed issues in the November 2025 release (version 25.6)’ section, it says: User Interface > 

  • Dialogs now open at their last saved position by default, with the Preferences dialog always opening centered.

I am using v25.6.4, and none of my panels remember their saved positions, ever. I move them, open them again, and they are in the center of the frame again. I restart SE, same results..

I’m guessing this is not a common problem, as I see no other posts about it.

Why would this be happening?

Using Windows 11 64 bit

    As a follow-up, i tested older versions of AE, and dialogs remember positions. I looked at the DVADialogPrefs.xml file, and ran it through Claude, and here is the report:

    After Effects 25.6.4 does not restore dialog positions despite the fix mentioned in 
    release notes: "Dialogs now open at their last saved position by default."

    STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
    1. Open After Effects 25.6.4
    2. Open Composition Settings (Ctrl+K)
    3. Move the dialog to any position
    4. Close the dialog
    5. Close After Effects completely
    6. Reopen After Effects
    7. Open Composition Settings again

    EXPECTED RESULT:
    Dialog opens at the saved position (as it did in v17.7)

    ACTUAL RESULT:
    Dialog always centers, ignoring saved position

    VERIFICATION:
    - DVADialogPrefs.xml IS being updated with correct position data
    - File is not read-only
    - File location: AppData\Roaming\Adobe\After Effects\25.6\DVADialogPrefs\DVADialogPrefs.xml
    - This worked correctly in version 17.7
    - Tested on both monitors (single and multi-monitor - same issue)

    SYSTEM:
    - Windows 11 (also occurred on Windows 10)
    - Multi-monitor setup (2560x1392 + 3840x2160)
    - No display scaling
    - After Effects 25.6.4
