Dragging files in the project panel is not working as expected.

Dragging a file from the Project window and unto the Project window's file viewer/file information area doesnt move the selected file to the top of the hierarchy as it used to do.

This was really useful when managing comples project with many files and folders, instead of having to drag a file from a folder all the way to the bottom of the project windows list to be able to drop it at the top of the hierarchy.

Hi all,

This issue has been fixed in the 25.3 version of After Effects, now available in the Creative Cloud app. After updating to that version, please let us know right away if you continue to experience this issue.

Thanks again,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team

There is a fix in the current AE Beta builds to restore this functionality. The next non-Beta release should also contain this fix.

In previous versions, it was possible to bring an item from a deep folder hierarchy back to the root level by dragging it onto the thumbnail area of the project panel.
However, since version 25.2, this no longer works.

Will this functionality be restored in a future update?

This is a bug in the current version. The product team is working on a fix.

Thanks for your patience.

Thanks,

Normally when importing files using drag and drop into the project panel I use the top empty area in the project panel to avoid to drop the files into a folder.

The new version of after effects has removed this option.

This is a small thing, but when working with a small project panel, this is a big help for the workflow.

Reproduced internally, bug logged.

Thanks for the report. There was a change in 25.2 for a related bug we had, but it appears this functionality was caught up in the bug fix and is no longer working. We are looking at how to bring it back.
