Dragging keyframes on a text layer lags when the Properties panel is open.

Hi,

Not a new problem, but I thought I’d report it now. When the Properties panel is open, dragging keyframes and layers becomes really laggy especially with text layers. The more properties are shown in the panel, the worse the lag gets. If I close the panel, the lag dissapears immediately. (see attached video)

It would be great if this could be fixed someday. A slow UI is the reason I don’t use the Properties panel and stick to the "old" Character panel instead — which is a pity.

Specs:

After Effects 25.2.2

Windows 11 Home (23H2)

Core i7-12700K

128 GB RAM

GeForce RTX 4080

Hi @Christian Lengger,

This fix has now made it's way to the release builds of After Effects 25.3. After you've updated to that version, please let us know if you continue to experience this issue or any others.

Thanks again for reporting this,

Hi @JohnColombo17100380,

Wow, that was fast—thanks for the quick update! The performance in the latest Beta is much better.
Dragging is still a bit slower with the properties panel open compared to when it’s closed, but the improvement overall is significant. Really appreciate the progress!

Hi @Christian Lengger,

Good news—a fix for this performance issue is now available in the latest builds of After Effects (Beta), version 25.3.0.064. In our testing, the keyframe drag performance for Source Text and other Text layer properties is much improved. Please let us know how it is working for you in the latest Beta build.

Thanks again for reporting this issue,

Hi @JohnColombo17100380 @nishu_kush,

Great to hear you'll be working on a fix! Just to answer your questions:
- Yes, it also happens in Safe Mode with third-party effects turned off.
- Drivers are up to date.
I just tested it on a MacBook Air M1 with macOS Sequoia, and you're right — I don't have any lag on Mac.

Thanks,

Christian

Hi @Christian Lengger,

Thank you for reporting this issue. We are also able to reproduce this, specifically on Windows, and now have a ticket open to investigate a fix. We will update this thread once a fix is available in the public Beta builds of After Effects.

Thanks again,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team

Thanks for writing in, Christian.

I haven't seen this issue. Does it happen if you run After Effects in Safe Mode with third-party plug-ins disabled? Is your GPU updated to the latest?

Let us know, we're here to help.

Thanks,
Nishu
