Expression Editor UI Issue: Cannot Fully Expand Expressions Near the Bottom of the Timeline
When editing expressions in the Timeline panel, expressions that are located near the bottom of the visible timeline become difficult to edit because the expression editor cannot be fully expanded within the available viewport.
After Effects Version: 25.6.4
OS: Windows 11 Enterprise
Steps to Reproduce
- Create multiple layers with multi-line expressions.
- Place the layer containing the target expression near the bottom of the visible Timeline panel.
- Open the expression editor.
- Try to expand the expression editor vertically to view the full expression.
Expected Result
The expression editor should automatically stay fully visible, or the Timeline should scroll as needed so that the entire expression editor can be expanded and edited comfortably.
Actual Result
The expression editor is constrained by the bottom edge of the Timeline panel. As a result, only a few lines are visible, making it cumbersome to read and edit longer expressions. Users must constantly resize panels, collapse properties, or manually rearrange the interface.
Impact on Workflow
This significantly slows down expression editing, especially in complex compositions where many layers and properties are visible. The issue has existed for multiple versions and negatively affects usability when working with longer expressions.
Suggested Improvement
When an expression editor is opened or resized:
- Automatically scroll the Timeline to keep the editor fully visible.
- Allow the editor to temporarily overlay lower timeline content.
- Provide a detachable or floating expression editor for longer expressions.
