@StevenLutz @JohnColombo17100380

I've been experiencing a crash with the Topaz Labs "Enhance" plug-in since first installing it a few months ago and I have had an open support ticket with Topaz Labs Support since 08/19/2024 (a little more than a month now).

Steps to reproduce:
  1. New Composition is created from DV/DVCPro - NTSC 720x480 (0.91). Separating Fields (Lower), Millions of Colors, Profile: Rex.709 Gamma 2.4 clip.
  2. Change the Composition setting to 1920x1440 Square Pixel.
  3. Set Composition Resolution to Full.
  4. Select the layer in the Composition.
  5. Choose Effects > Topaz Video AI > Enhance.
  6. In the Effect Controls panel, click the Select Model pop-up menu and choose an option.
  7. After Effects crashes with the option to submit a report to Adobe.

Result: After Effects warning: Unknown Exception.  OK.
Expected: A Model can be selected from the pop-up menu and the video is up-converted.
Additional notes: Up-conversion in Topaz Video AI works as expected.

System info
Application: After Effects v24.6.2 and v23.6.9
Plug-in: Enhance that installs with the stand-alone application Topaz Vidoe AI v5.3.1
OS: macOS v13.6.7, RAM: 64.00 GB GB, CPUs (logical): 20

With each new update to Topaz Video AI or After Effects, I've been gathering the logs and submitting them to Topaz Labs Support.  I also submit the After Effects crash report.

A trouble-shooting step that I have not tried yet is to disable all other plug-ins to see if there may be a conflict with something else that's loading.

According to Margaux with Topaz Labs Support, the dev team is "taking a look".

Hi @StevenLutz,

Thank you for reporting this issue. Are you using the Topaz Video AI Enhance plug-in for After Effects? Please provide more information about the steps you've taken when encountering the "After Effects must close" warning. E.g. what type of footage is being upscaled, what is its original resolution, and what are your system specifications?

When After Effects closes, are you presented with the Crash Reporter dialog? If so, please submit the crash log with your email address. That will allow us to investigate the issue in more detail.

Thanks again,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team
