Graph Editor showing too many decimal places

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this bug that’s been happening to me for a while now. I’ve never found anything about it online, and it used to happen in AE 24 and is still happening in AE 25.

Basically, my graph editor is showing insanely long numbers, whereas it used to show just two decimal places. Other people I talk to still see only two digits after the decimal, but mine suddenly changed overnight. Any idea how to fix it? I’ve already reinstalled the software but it didn’t help.

Hi @Rodrigo Brazao,
Thank you for reporting this issue. You are correct, those numbers aren't supposed to be that long when dragging keyframes. We've now got a ticket open to investigate this and get it fixed in a future version.

Thanks again!

Hmmm yeah, I also don't think it was done intentionally. I talked to my colleague and he said he is using AE 24.6.4.
I told him to try AE 25, and these longer numbers appeared 😞 so probably this happens only in AE 25. Hope someone from Adobe comments here.

And thank you for all the tests!

You're definitely not crazy. I looked at quite a few other "graph editor" videos on YT and couldn't find a single one where there are ever more than two decimal places displayed in the graph editor regardless of what is being clicked or which graph is being used. And yet, all the tests I've done look like yours does, through any version I currently have access to, and even after resetting prefs. I've tested on Windows and Mac AE v25.3.2 and on Mac AE Beta v25.2 & v25.4 and in all of them the values are being displayed the same as yours, with extremely long, unrounded decimal values. I checked the AE update changes lists for most of the 25 releases and didn't find anything related to this kind of value display change so if this is related to a recent update it doesn't appear to have been done intentionally. Might be worth checking what version of AE your colleagues are using.

Hey mate! It's happening when I click and drag, yeah, but I’m pretty sure it’s not normal. Until a couple of months ago, the numbers in my speed graph were showing with only two decimal places when I clicked and dragged. I even asked some colleagues and theirs are still like that, not like mine.

I just searched “speed graph after effects” on YouTube to check if I was going crazy, but I’m relieved I’m not ahahah.
Here’s a screenshot I took from a random video. It's two decimal places while he is dragging.

This is how values are displayed anytime you click and drag a keyframe in the value graph or when you adjust a keyframe handle in the Speed graph. To see the value with only two decimal places, just hover the mouse over the keyframe or curve instead of clicking. If you are seeing those long numbers even when you are just hovering, that would be a deeper issue. But if just when clicking and dragging, that is normal.
