H264 footage crashing After Effects (potential memory leak?)

  • Issue - h264 footage appears to be causing AE to crash
  • Adobe After Effects version number: 25.1
  • Operating system OSX 15.3.2 - Macbook Pro M1 Max, 32GB
  • Steps to reproduce - Import any h264 footage, create a comp with it, scrub footage in comp, works for a little while, then hangs
  • Expected result - Be able to work with h264 footage without need to transcode
  • Actual result -  After Effects crashes

Doesn't appear to happen with other codecs. I tried clearing All Cache which doesn't work. Hardware acceleration has been tried on and off with same results.

Hi @Kevin-Monahan,

I've just installed the Beta, dropped in the same clip and made a comp, scrubbed and RAM previewed. No issues. Also tested it with 4 other h264 mp4s and I'm not seeing any issues.

Hi Kevin, just to flag this is the same issue that we've discussed here@hello.ahay example vid is a good demonstration of the problem.  As I mentioned before, I've noticed it gets triggered after a RAM preview if that helps replicate and diagnose the issue?

Hi,

Are you seeing the same issue with the Beta version? Let us know. I hope the team will respond soon. Sorry for the issue.

Thanks,
Kevin
