i can't find my contextual task bar

That one trips up a lot of people — it's easy to hide and not obvious how to get back. Just go to Window > Contextual Task Bar in the menu bar and turn it back on. If it's already checked and the bar still isn't showing, toggle it off and on once and it should reappear.
