Instant crash when applying or opening projects with "Color Profile Converter" in Adobe 2026

Since updating to the new Adobe 2026 release, interacting with the "Color Profile Converter" effect causes the application to crash instantly to the desktop without any error message or warning.

  1. I cannot apply the "Color Profile Converter" to any new layers.

  2. Worse, I cannot open ANY existing projects that already have this effect applied. The program instantly crashes upon loading the project.

Steps to Reproduce: Scenario A (New Project):

  1. Open Adobe 2026.

  2. Create a new composition and add any layer (solid, footage, etc.).

  3. Apply the "Color Profile Converter" effect to the layer.

  4. Result: Instant crash to desktop.

Scenario B (Existing Project):

  1. Try to open an existing project file that contains the "Color Profile Converter" effect.

  2. Result: The software crashes instantly during the project loading phase.

My System Specifications:

  • Adobe Version: Adobe 2026 (v26.3.0)

  • Operating System: Windows 11 (25H2)

  • Processor (CPU): i7 - 12700

  • RAM: 64GB

  • Graphics Card (GPU): 4070 SUPER (latest studio drivers)

Temporary solution is delete, new profiles from: C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color - but this is not good solution.

Sorry to hear about the crash. I tried this on my end and I'm not seeing the issue. A few questions to help narrow it down:

    1. Are you getting a crash report when it crashes? If so, please include your email address before submitting so we can pull the log on our end.

    2. Could you try running After Effects in Safe Mode with third-party plug-ins disabled and see if that changes anything?

    Let me know.

    Thanks,

    Nishu

With all due respect, I currently do not have the time to test various troubleshooting scenarios. It is clear that the crash/issue is caused by one of the attached files (or a combination of them) located in the C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color directory.

I believe it shouldn't matter whether these color profiles are too large, too small, corrupted, or fully functional: their presence on the system should not compromise the stability of Adobe After Effects, especially since I am not even using these profiles in the program. I am providing this information so your development team can address the root cause of this bug.
