The Median filter is no longer accelerated through Metal.
Note, this is the New median filter, not the legacy one, that is currently even slower.

We've identified the cause of the issue. It is related to some updates we took from the Photoshop team that are missing some of the acceleration functionality used by Median and a few other effects. We are working on a fix and hope to have something available in the near future. In the mean time, if you are affected by the slow down, please roll back to AE 25.2.2.

We just purchased a Mac studio (M3 Ultra 32 core 256gb) as a secondary render machine, but the render times are so slow, or it just hangs. The current project im trying to render is aprox 6k resolution with a few effects etc. but nothing crazy.

The Mac studio current render time suggests 243 hours! our 2 year old pc rendered it in 9hrs. This is obviously not aceptable. I've tried just about everything but open to any suggestions.

Hi keithd28267276,

Thanks for writing in. Would you mind letting us know the details about the project? Which effects are you using? Are there any third-party plug-ins being used? Is your media stored in external storage or internal? What are the system specifications of the two-year-old PC that you mentioned?

Let me know.

Thanks,
Nishu

Hi Nishu,

Thanks for getting back to me. I have finaly isolated the issue and it is being caused by the effect Median. As soon as I turn it off the project will render as expected! I can send you a simple project that will show you the bug. If thats helpful?

Best,

Keith

Thank you for the report. We have identified the issue and are working towards a fix. Unfortunately it is part of some shared technology in Adobe that After Effects utilizes so we are working to correct the issue. That may take a couple of weeks. Once the fix is available in Beta and non-Beta builds, we'll post back here so you can try out the fix.

In the mean time, if this is critical, you could install 25.2.2 (available in Other Versions in CCD) which does not have the problem.

Hi guifx,

Thanks for reporting the issue. I don't think it was a GPU-accelerated effect, but I can see the same behaviour on my end as well. I am filing a bug for further investigation. Sorry for the inconvenience. I'll update this thread when there is progress.

Let me know if there are any other questions. Moving this thread from Discussions to Bugs.

Thanks,
Nishu
