After Effects 22.4 and 22.5 are popping up multiple dialog boxes related to memory leaks in Particle Playground (when used in a composition) if the application is exited without first closing the project.

Hi all,

This issue has been fixed in After Effects 2023 (version 23.0) which is now available in the Creative Cloud app. Particle Playground no longer leaks memory when closing After Effects.

Thanks again for reporting this issue,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team

Hi Karl,

Thank you so much for reporting this issue and especially for the detailed steps to show the errors. We are able to also see the errors and have opened a ticket to investigate a fix for a future version of After Effects. We will keep this post updated as a fix becomes available.

Thanks again,
- John, After Effects Engineering Team

create a composition
create a new solid and apply particle playground
set cannon particle per second to 0 and particle radius to 0
set the grid width and height to match the composition size
set the grid particle radius to something visible like 10
set a keyframe for the grid emitter to 10 particles across and 10 particles down at frame 0
at frame 1 set the particles across and down to 0
save your file
exit AE and watch the crash dialogs.
