MOGRT files created in After Effects do not retain all settings when uploaded to Premiere

My team *loves the possibility of MOGRT files, however, we've run into issues that severely limit its application. Please fix these bugs so we can have a seamless transition from After Effects and Premiere.

-Mode settings do not take

We have made a lower third and open with the "multiply" mode setting attached to create a specific transparent look. Whenever the mogrt graphic is uploaded to premiere, it loses its transparency altogether.

- 3D effects not supported

We use 3D on many graphics, however, we get an error message when exporting the file as a mogrt

Additional info:

Our team's workflow is simple. Our photographers will edit a video together in Premiere using their collected assets. During that time, our graphics team will make the Open/Close/Lower/Graphic in After Effects. With the application of MOGRT files, our Photographer team never has to leave premiere, and our graphics team isn't bogged down making copies of the same lower with different text.

At this time, our team is up to date on both AE and Premiere.

Our minimum ram on a station is 32gb.

We used both Windows 10 and MAC computers.

The ultimate solution is this...

Anything you make in premiere can be made as a MOGRT and retain its attributes.

Hi @Steven21995693ct95,

Thank you for reporting these issues!

For the first issue you've mentioned, the inability to have blending modes applied in Mogrt graphics is a limitation of Mogrts as they are implemented today. Blending modes within a Mogrt or on certain elements of a Mogrt are not able to blend with underlying footage in the Premiere; Mogrts can be laid on top of any footage, but cannot interact with the pixels of that footage. However, you can achieve the blended look in two ways:

  1.  Change the Blending Mode of the Mogrt clip itself in the Premiere sequence. This may work for simpler graphic overlays but will be reliant on the colors or values of the graphic being used to blend properly.
  2.  Use a Media Replacement control to insert your footage into the Mogrt itself. With this workflow, all Blending Modes of graphics on footage are preserved because the footage becomes part of the Mogrt. More details on Media Replacement are available here: https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/replace-images-videos-motion-graphics.html.

For the second issue of 3D effects, what errors are you seeing? Some of the native 3D features of After Effects are supported in Mogrts, so we'd need to see what errors are being shown in order to diagnose what limits might be getting hit.

Thanks again for reporting these issues and for any further information you can provide,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team

Blending mode pass-through and blending mode support is really more of a Premiere thing that goes back to the stone age... What 3D effects are you referring to? If you mean Element 3D, Trapcode, BCC and such then this is nothing Adobe has any control over. The 3D renderers used have individual requirements and are handled by the vendors.
