new unmult effect does banding and color shift if source have some transparency

In AE 2026 is the new unmult effect which works well until you apply it to video which have transparency (alpha channel). Then the result is unacceptable with strong banding and color shift.
If I compare result to other unmult effects or workarounds, the result of native new effect is totally different while other methods/plugins does well and practicaly the same output. I can provide the whole project with one frame from the footage, or the whole animation,

Sample image attached.
I tried change bit depth and colorspace but that does not change anything.

Hi @vobrazovka

Thank you again for reporting this! We found and fixed the issue on footage with partially transparent alphas. You can grab the latest public beta of AE 26.2 from the Creative Cloud desktop app to test out Unmult v1.1.

Thanks again!

Hi @vobrazovka, it’s not a particularly common scenario to apply Unmult to a clip with partial transparency already, but it should still work.

  1. Where did this footage come from?
    1. I created an sample clip with partial transparency as ProRes 4444 and Unmult handled it without any banding.
  2. If you right-click the clip in the Project panel and choose Interpret Footage > Main > and select “Straight - Unmatted,” does anything change?
  3. As Nishu asked, could you please share this clip with us?

Hi vobrazovka,

Thanks for reaching out. Do you mind sharing the media and the project file so that I can reproduce the issue on my end?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Nishu
