Premiere Pro And After Effects Performance Issues

Hi!

I'm wondering if anyone would have any insight as to what could be causing issues for me in my Adobe products, I've tried multiple versions and it just seems so clunky, I've tried it on multiple PC's too, it just feels very laggy, slow to scrub through footage (even Proxies at 1/4 quality seem to perform with no difference to the base files, which is making me wonder if it's an issue in settigns or files, which is why I've tried different versions, lean installs the works.

My Specs are;

Windows 11

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X

RTX 4090

96GB DDR5 (2x48GB)

Samsung 990 Pro NVME SSD (multiple drives, one has my OS, files and Programs, and I have a separate one for the Media Cache as I thought that would help too, but it made no difference, or if anything made it lag and stutter more).

It seems even very simple tastks are causing lag, such as yesterday in a Dyanmic Link, I made a circle in a separate pre-comp and that lagged in of itself, any other questions, please let me know, and I hope this can help me and hopefully other people in the future!

Hi @JohnColombo17100380, I've had tried multiple versions, yeah, as well as Safe Mode with no Plug-In's, the performance did increase, but very minimally, and still a lot worse than I would expect from my machine, and how it's been previously. And yeah, I've been wondering that myself, my other applications seem to work fine and my percentages on my Task Manager are good, so I'm possibly wondering if it's a Windows 11 issue?

@Tomm Saunders, thank you for that info! Are you using the very latest version of AE (25.5)? I ask because the flashing frames in the recording you shared looks like a bug that was recently fixed.

In regards to the lag, do you still experience the lag if you launch After Effects in Safe Mode without 3rd party effects? If the lag is persistent across multiple versions of AE/Premiere Pro, that points to a potential issue with the system hardware or drivers.

Tagging @nishu_kush as well for additional troubleshooting steps.

Cheers,

Hi @JohnColombo17100380!

I've tried multiple versions of both PRemiere Pro and After Effects 24 and 25. The lag occurs on both, however I would say in terms of After EFfects, it does lag more with Dynamic Link projects, but it occurs for both, even when my usage on my Task MAnager are in the 20-30%'s at max.

No network drives, they're all plugged in to my computer's motherboard internally

I have a few, I have Boris FX Sapphire and Continuim, Motion 4, Flow and FX Console, I think a few other small ones like KBar and Motion Bro too!

And no problem, any other info feel free to ask! I hope that you have a great day! ❤️

Hi @Tomm Saunders,
Thank you for reporting this issue. What version of After Effects and Premiere Pro are you currently using? Is the lagging occurring in both After Effects and Premiere or only in one application?

Also, do you have any network drives connected to the systems where you are experiencing the lag? Or are any third-party plug-ins or extensions installed?

Thanks again for reporting this and for any further information you can provide,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team
