PROBLEM: After typing a text, you press ESC and it deletes itself

This is an old problem I have, and after a long time using this software, I do not see a way to solve this.

1. You create a Text Box.
2. You write your text.
3. Press ESC as a fast way to get out of editing mode.

Boom! you've lost your text.

Is there any way to fix this or an alternative mode?

HI, @Zon122:

This would make a great feature request!

On the After Effects side, we have to press Return (Windows) or Enter (macOS) on the extended keypad or fn + Return with the standard keys.

However, when we’re in Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign, we can press ESC to accept the text entry.

Rather than start a new request, you could add your vote here:

Escape is set to cancel, not really an option for it to be something else. If you want to commit the changes, hit the Enter key on the numpad, or switch to a different tool.

This is advanced dumbassery. Enter makes a new line and if you want to switch to other tools you end up typing random letters.

  • The ESC key allows you to exit a Text Layer while in Edit Mode without being forced to commit to any change you made - perfectly fine and well-designed - IMO, other apps should follow this UI.

And you actually have TWO shortcuts + a Click to exit Edit Mode in a Text Layer and confirm your edit -

ENTER + CTRL/CMD on the main keyboard

    Enter on the NumPad

Click on the Selection (or any other Tool except the Text Tool), in the Toolbox
