Problems Adding Markers in Real-Time Listening to Audio Preview

Hello,

I used to be able to add markers using the * key on my number pad while listening to an audio preview that was generated when I hit the . key. Now when I create a preview the cursor does not travel in real-time along with the audio. It goes slower. So when I try to add a marker, the marker is not correctly added on the time-line at that moment I want. Another issue is that when I create a preview, it loops and loops and loops. It seams that hitting the space bar to try to stop it does not have an immediate effect like it used to. Now it takes my computer a really long time to realize that I've hit a key to stop the preview. I've also noticed that my keyboard is not as responsive as it is in other programs. When using the type tool in AE, I'll have to type very slowly, almost like 1 character per second. I'm not sure if all these issues are related but it seems like it all started when I got a new computer and new OS. When I used after effects on my old computer using Catalina (or maybe Big Sur - I don't remember) this was never an issue. Right now I'm using Monterey 12.6.1 on a 2019 Mac Pro with 3.2 GHz 16-Core Intel Xeon W and 2 ADM Radeon PRO W6800X Duo graphics cards.

Thank you for your help!

Did you find a workaround for this? I'm having the same problem.

Hi John, Any updates. It's so bad! I'm working on something that I have to sync the animation to the audio and it's just so frustrating.

Hi John,

Thank you for getting back to me on this issue.

I have the file, just not sure how to get it to you.

I used the default layout to close all my plug-in pannels and I saw no improvement.

Hello,
Is this the email that I should send the AE Log.txt file to?

Hi @Greg5C1D,

Thank you for reporting these issues. From your description, it seems like After Effects overall is struggling in a few areas on your machine. Would you be able to capture and share a log file with us?

To enable logging, select Help > Enable Logging and restart After Effects when prompted.

After you've relaunched After Effects and used it for a few minutes, go to Help > Reveal Logging File, which will open a few Finder dialogs—one of these will have the "After Effects Log.txt" file that we need to see. Please send it in a private message, as it does contain some path information/file names from your machine.

Additionally, do you have any third-party plug-ins or panels installed? If so, does closing any of the panels help AE's performance?

Thanks for reporting this issue and for any further information you can provide,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team
