red raw r3d 4k footage image frozen in after effects 2026

i brought 4k R3d footage into adobe after effects 2026. and it looked like the color profile was all wrong. so i Right clicked it, chose interpret footage, main, click the more options button at very bottom. Scroll all the way down to output transform section, changed color space to redWideGamutRGBm and change gamme curve to Log 3G10.

and my after effects timeline is only 24 frames long. i applied colorista to the clip. then i applied keylight to the r3d footage and sample the green but the background doesnt disappear which means the image is frozen. and im looking at it with quarter resolution. then i hit save and tried to quit and its locked up and not quitting so i had to force quit and come back in. and now i can see the green screen is knocked out so i put a stock clip behind my green screen subject but then turned the layer off and even though its off its stil showing me this stock footage background which means the image isnt updating in AE. its like its locked up but its not. its just showing me a frozen image. ive never seen it do this before.  this seems like a bug. the footage is not coming from my external ssd hard drive, its coming from Lucid. I’m on 1000mb ethernet not wifi.

now im bringing it into after effects 2025 and it comes in with the correct flat/log color space versus how it looked with crushed blacks when i brought it into ae 2026. i’m experiencing similar frozen image behavior though when i try to scrub the clip on the timeline in ae 25. but nothing else with after effects is locked up. the image isnt moving at all. i applied keylight to it just now in ae 25 and sampled the green is nothing is happening. which means the image is frozen and not updating

so i downloaded ONE clip to my external 4tb ssd drive, and i right clicked on the clip in after effects that is coming from Lucid and chose “replace” and pointed it to the clip on my SSD drive and now ae is locked up giving me the rainbow spinning beachball cursor. after i force quit and i came back into ae 25 and did the “replace”,  and this time it worked, but when i scrub all 24 frames of my timeline its still frozen. so i press quit and it wont quit, its locked up again. so i forced quit and gave up. this is very abnormal.

i have a really souped up 128gb ram apple studio. has anyone else encountered this in ae 2026? after effects version 26.5.0 build 89. mac os golden gate 27.0.1
