Roto brush & Refine Edge window freeze

A novice with AE so could be wrong here.

When using Roto Brush and pressing "Freeze" a window named "Roto Brush & Refine Edge" appears with a progress bar. The progress bar fills as work progresses as you would expect. However, about a quarter way through the window longer gets updated, but work continoues unaffected.

There's a quadrizillion bugs with this, so this may simply be one of those situations. Anything more specific would require screenshots and details about the actul comp, layer and settings.
