Stop changing label colors with color theme in Ae2025

I have my label colors set to highly saturated color because that's how I want them. But now with Ae2025, if I select the 'Dark' theme, all of these colors are darkened as well. If I wanted the label colors darker I would make them darker in the Label preferences. At a minimum, this should not be the default behavior. Ideally you should include a switch to make it optional. Please fix this!

Hi @Mike Foran ,

Can you see if this issue happens in Safe Mode (Preferences -> Startup & Repair -> Safe Mode). If the bug goes away, I believe what is happening is there is an old text preference "UI Brightness Slider Affects Labels" which may be incorrectly carried forward when importing preferences from previous versions (and it must have been enabled in the prior version). The short term fix you can try is to reset your preferences (or disable this specific preference in the preferences text file manually).

Let me know if this fixes your issue.

Thanks,

Hello @Mike Foran,

Thanks for your feedback. We will open an internal issue to address this.

Thank you for following up. Ae2024 had a switch under Preferences->Appearance called "Affects Label Colors" that, when switched off, would not alter the label colors based on the brightness setting of the interface theme. Ae2025 has removed this switch, and defaulted to the label colors being affected. I would like this switch returned to the panel so I can preserve the UI look I want.

Hello @Mike Foran,
I do see the change in behavior you mentioned. To be clear, this is the label box in the timeline Label column, and also the color used when assigning a lable color to keyframes.
The timeline bar to the right, which is informed by the label color, changed slightly based on the UI slider in previous versions of AE, so I would expect that to still follow variation based on theme.

Are those the same expectations you have for label behavior?

Hello @Mike Foran,

Thanks for the post. I hope the team will respond shortly, If you can provide any further information about your system and the version of After Effects you are using, that would be helpful. Sorry for the frustration.

Thanks,
Kevin
