Turbulence Displace – layer jumps when Amount = 0.0

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a new composition.

  2. Add a solid or image layer.

  3. Apply Effect → Distort → Turbulence Displace.

  4. Set Amount = 0.0.

Expected result
The layer should stay perfectly still, as the displacement amount is zero.

Actual result
The layer unexpectedly shifts/jumps from its original position.
If Amount is set to any other value (not 0), the layer behaves as expected.

Environment

  • After Effects version: 25.4.0 Build 86]

  • Operating system: macOS Sequia 15.6.1

  • Hardware: MacBook Pro M1

  • Third-party plug-ins: None

Notes
This started happening after the latest AE update.

Hey @veli-ville,

Thanks for the report and clear repro steps, that really helps. We recently found this issue and are investigating the cause. In the meantime, it sounds like you have the not-so-ideal, but still usable workaround of starting at "0.1"

I made a note to update this thread when a fix is available in the Public Beta.

Thanks,
- David, After Effects Engineering Team
