Video audio becoming distant and muffled when imported.

Whenever I import a movie or an TV episode into after effects the audio becomes muffled and distant but when I play it using Media Player, Windows Media Player or the standard Films & TV player; the audio is completely fine. It seems the audio only becomes muffle and distant once imprted into After Effects. I've been trying to find a fix for this for days now to no avail. If any can help me find the cause and a diagnosis, I would be extremely grateful. 

 

PC specs:

 

CPU: Intel i7 9700 3.00 GHz 8 core

GPU: Nvidia GTX 1660ti

RAM: Corsai DDR4 8x2

I figured out the problem. After effects doesn't support 5.1 or 7.1 audio.

Without any actual info about the audio specs like sample rate, channels, how it was captured as well as your audio prefs, preview settings and so on we can't tell you much. This could be anything.
