When the graph editor panel is maximized, panning with middle-mouse-button un-maximizes it.

  1. Create a new project.
  2. Create a new composition.
  3. Add a new layer of any kind. Add a few keyframes to some value.
  4. Select the keyframes and open the graph editor.
  5. Press tilde (`) to maximize the graph editor panel inside After Effects.
  6. Use the middle mouse button to pan/scroll inside the graph editor.
  7. The graph editor panel erroneously returns to its original size.

If no layers are selected, the problem does not occur. It also doesn’t happen when holding spacebar to pan/scroll.

I can confirm this bug. When a layer with keyframes is selected, panning with the middle mouse button exits the maximized graph editor. If no animated layer is selected, this issue won’t happen. Panning by holding the spacebar works fine as well.

Hey, thanks for sharing the steps! I tried reproducing this on my end with keyframes selected, but panning with the middle mouse button kept the Graph Editor maximized.

Could you share your system specs (OS version, CPU, RAM, and GPU) and the exact After Effects version you’re using?

Also, could you try the same steps in Safe Mode with third-party plug-ins disabled? That’ll help us narrow down whether a plug-in or your current settings might be involved. Here’s how: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-discussions/how-to-troubleshoot-startup-issues-in-after-effects-using-the-startup-repair-options/td-p/13866327

Let us know if the panel still returns to its original size.

    Thanks,

    Nishu

Thanks for getting back and sharing the details. Were you able to try the steps in Safe Mode with third-party plug-ins disabled? If so, did the Graph Editor still return to its original size when panning with the middle mouse button?

    Let me know.

    Thanks,
    Nishu
