Hi @Frank_B,

This issue is fixed in the latest After Effects (Beta) build (24.4.0.11 or later). Please let us know right away if you continue to experience this issue or any related issues in the latest Beta builds.

We've identified the cause and have a fix in testing right now. We expect the fix to be out to the beta builds on Monday.

The color label swatches feature came out of something Premiere Pro was prioritizing and we have users who have been requesting it, and internally it had been testing well so we brought it to beta. We haven't seen the issue you had so it's good we did so both AE and PPro can get it fixed. I understand if it's not important to you though.

As to the other features you mentioned, a lot of work has been going on under the covers on font replacement. If we had been introducing global font replacement, you may have seen a ton more crashes around fonts. As that font system work is now starting to wrap up, we can look at the general font replacement feature and see how we can make it better. There are a number of new scripting APIs we've developed to support font replacement so it's likely now just a matter of some new UI to make that easier.

The Locked Workspaces will require more coordination across AE, PPro, Audition, AME, etc. It's shared code that we'd need to work on across the apps. But we'll keep it on the backlog for future consideration.

@JohnColombo17100380
I'm happy with the "Color Label Swatches" disabled and no crashes. I'm sorry for sayint this but I'd rather see AE team spending time and resources on essential aspects of After Effects workflow like these ones:

@Frank_B Thank you! Nothing in that list sticks out as anything in common with the other customers who have reported this issue.

Could you give more details on the installed third-party plug-ins, extensions, and scripts? They don't need to be sketchy to cause conflicts with new functionality, but it would be good for us to know if we need to contact a third-party developer to help address this.

  • For scripts, a screenshot of your workspace or Window menu (scrolled all the way down) would work.
  • For plug-ins, screenshots of the Effect Manager with "Only Show Third-Pary Effects", plus listing any non-effect plug-ins you may have installed e.g. AutoCrop or Un-pre-compose.
  • For extensions, a screenshot of Window > Extensions.

Thanks again for helping us track this down,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team

Hi @Frank_B,

Thanks for reporting this. As we're continuing to investigate, some additional information from your system would be helpful.

  1. What version of Windows are you using?
  2. What are your system specifications, including GPU driver versions?
  3. Do you have any additional hardware connected, e.g. a Wacom tablet?
  4. What third-party scripts, extensions, and plug-ins are installed for After Effects?
  5. Do you have any third-party Windows File Explorer extensions installed for Windows?

Thanks again for reporting, and for any additional information you can provide,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team
