Changing scale of 3D model causes render issue

I imported a GLB model into the After Effects Beta app. I then set keyframes in my animation to start from 0% scale and go to 100% scale. When the 3D objects render in After Effects things look good, but if I use either the Render Queue in After Effects or if I render to the Beta of AME I get blue and purple boxes at the beginning of the animation before the texture starts to appear (see attachment).

Hi @Jeff R Davis!

Thank you for filing this bug and including the example video. The boxes you see are placeholders, which we normally don't expect to appear in the render unless the 3D model has gone missing on disk. In this case, what is probably happening is that the Mercury 3D render is not returning the render for those objects quickly enough on those frames, so the models are replaced by the placeholder.

I'd like to ask you to do two things:

  1. Please re-test this in the next build of After Effects Beta. Due to the holiday schedul in the US, we expect the next build early on the week of July 10. There are some changes our devs have been working on which may solve this.
  2. If this is not solved for you in the next build, could you please send me the project and the the 3D model(s) in use? Please include the queued render items in the project. We'll need to look at the specific case you're encountering.
