Unable to allocate memory error is back

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open an AE project that has linked PPro comps

2. Open the corresponding PPro project

3. Work in PPro on the PPro project

4. Notice that PPro is suddenly very unresponsive

5. Think "Ah I know this old chestnut!" and pop over to AE to be greeted with that very familiar "After Effects (Beta): Unable to allocate 1.000 MB of memory..." message. Think to myself "1.000 MB"?? I have 128GB in this machine!
6. Dismiss the error - sometimes there are literally dozens of them, and holding Esc dismisses them quickly.

7. Check in AE that the one open comp is nothing outrageous -  it's a short (~4 secs) 24fps 2160x2160 MP4 with a subtle position & scale move on it, and Cache Frames When Idle is OFF.

8. Sigh, and resign myself to the fact that, like many other users (judging by the number times this has been reported), I'll have to live with this. I've not seen this error for months (years maybe), but it occurs many times a day over the past couple of AE beta releases. It's a shame that linked comps continue to cause issues (I'm assuming it's a linked comp thing - that's usually the Root of All Problems) despite them having been around for many years now. Especially seeing that linked comps is the ONLY advantage that the AE/PPro workflow has over the many other (cheaper/free) options around for editing/compositing.

9. Back in PPro, the section of my timeline with the linked comp just shows black. So I quit PPro to refresh things, and that causes AE to quit.

10. Reload PPro and AE, and get the "AE crashed" message upon reload.

11. Continue working, with the knowledge that things will crash again soon.

I am having a similar issue and it is very frustrating. I am recieving this message.I also attached my PC specs. I allocate 6Gigs to all other allocates besides After Effects. I have the latest version of After Effects, 25.3.2. I have deleted all memory chache but the issue still persists. The issue happens when I preview in full resolotion in a HD comp made for social media. This last time, I was just trying to add a Hue/Saturation effect. I am not using any particle simulations, and I have my graphics card driver updated. I use After Effects independently, I.E. I don't have the AE comp directed out of a premiere project. I have tried everything buy uninstalling AE. I would rather not do that. I am glad I am not the only one who is encountering this issue, but this shouldn't happen so happen.

Hi @hellopaul4,
Thank you for reporting these issues in details and for your patience. These issues seem extremely serious. Referring to point 8, could you point us to other places where these same issues are being reported?

Two things would help us as we dig in deeper: crash reports and project files.

  • When the crashes occur, have you been able to submit the crash report with your Creative Cloud account email?
  • Would you be able to share a project that reproduces these issues, via a download link (DM preferred to keep files private).

Thank you again for patience and your reports,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team

Well that's annoying. I gave up on the Beta versions of AE & PPro and loaded the project into the release version, only to see a new, far more serious problem: Opening up ANY sequence reveals absolutely NOTHING in the timeline! I then quit PPro/AE and loaded up the Beta versions (and tried this after a restart too), only to have the same, empty timeline issue. The sequence plays back ok, but there's just emptiness in the timeline! Hmmm....what was I saying earlier about jumping ship to another NLE?!

Behold! Nothing!

I'm now updating my Nvidia drivers in the hope that going from 576.52 to 576.80 will magically fix everything!

Nope - that made no difference. And the problem persists on other projects too. I'm now installing PPro 25.2.3 (Build 4) and AE (older versions) in the hope of some kind of salvation.

Nope - PPro is, I believe the technical term is - f**ked. I'll leave it stewing for half an hour or so while I try to do something more productive like bang my head againast a brick wall in the hope that the timeline contents might actually materialise. But I am completely screwed having no way to complete this job I'm midway through. Thanks, Adobe.

Well, there's ALMOST a workaround - if I close ALL my timeline tabs, and the timeline panel completely, I can open ONE and ONE timeline only. Really useful when the main part of this job is copying bits from one sequence to another.

Oh, and the ONLY way to export anything is to drag the project icon into Media Encoder and select what I want to export from there. ctrl-M or anything else does absolutely nothing.

UPDATE: After not using PPro for a couple of days, I've just updated PPro Beta to 25.4.0 x58, and the problem still exists, just as bad.

Same thing happened again...it seems AE and PPro can play nicely for maybe 45 minutes, then they get into a big argument.
