Bridge freezing when moving files from filtered file view

When I filter files then select the filtered files and move them with drag and drop to another folder in the folders window Bridge freezes so that I need to kill it.

When I select the filtered files and then press the x Button on the filtered files view to return to the full unfiltered folder view the files are still selected and I can move them by drag and drop without problems.

Hi! Thanks for the clear description — good that you already found a way around it by leaving the filtered view (selection kept) before dragging.

For the freeze itself, Adobe's official Bridge freeze/performance troubleshooting doc lists these steps in order:

    1. Update to the latest version of Bridge (Help > Updates).

    2. Reset preferences, reset the default workspace, and purge the cache: launch Bridge and immediately hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS), then select all three options — Reset Preferences, Reset Standard Workspaces, and Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache.

    3. Disable startup scripts: Preferences > Startup Scripts > Disable All, then re-enable them one by one if Bridge behaves better.

    4. Temporarily disable programs that scan or manage disk activity (antivirus, firewall, disk utilities) to rule out a conflict.

    5. Test with the Folders panel disabled (Window menu > deselect Folders Panel) to see if the freeze still happens.

The doc has further steps if none of these change anything.

No guarantee this resolves your specific case, but it's Adobe's documented sequence for Bridge freezes. Let us know how it goes!

Hmm, seems like the typical “have you restarted your computer?” boilerplate answer. Is there evidence of it helping? Will have a closer look when I have time - it’s quite complicated.

Fair point — and honestly, no: I have no evidence those steps fix this specific freeze. That document is Adobe’s general freeze/performance checklist for Bridge, not a fix written for the filtered-view drag-and-drop case, and I should have been clearer about that. For a bug report like this one, your exact repro steps (and the workaround you found) are the most valuable part — that’s what the Bridge team needs to reproduce it. Adding your Bridge version and OS to the report helps too. Thanks for calling it out.
