Bridge labels not working

Dear Adobe commmunity,

I use Bridge to go through my pictures before importing a select few into Lightroom when I've gone through the SD card. I have done this same exact process for years without any trouble.

Today, I had multiple SD cards to go through, and the first one went as smooth as always. After ejecting the first card and inserting another (same type of card from the same brand), I opened Bridge back up, and everything seemed fine. I had a sip of my drink and prepared to go through the ~2300 images I had in front of me. It's a lot, but I have gone through double that amount without any trouble. I came to picture number 10, and wanted to label it as "Select" (the red group) as I always do this for the images I want to bring with me through the process.

I used to be able to just click the number 6, and it would work fine. About half a year or so ago, I had to start holding control while clicking 6 to label it. I thought this was frustrating, but didn't think too much of it, as it still worked just with an extra mini-step.

However, this time, even while holding control, the image was not selected. I tried everything. Clicking 6, clicking ctrl+6, opening the image with space and trying both 6 and ctrl+6 in there, and manually right clicking and labelling it through there. Nothing has worked so far. The label is not given. I can open the select label tab with ctrl+alt+6, but I can't label any images so it just says "Select (0)" as seen in the image.

I can not label and I can not rate images. Without these abilities, Bridge is completely useless for me, and it being such a vital part of my post production workflow, I would like a solution to the issue. Is there one?

Short recap:
- Go through one SD card, labels work completely fine
- Close Bridge and eject SD Card
- Insert new SD card and open Bridge once again
- Labels won't work

Absolutely. Labeling and rating has always been a little unreliable, but in this latest version it’s almost unusable. This is not a minor feature. It’s a key part of several of my workflows. Purging the cache used to help - now it doesn’t.

What's that stock trading disclaimer? Past performance is not a guarantee of future results. Sometimes a process works until it doesn't.

I have done this process for years without problems. I never do more than select the ones I like to export seperately. Never had any problems with this process until today

Trying to edit (even just assigning labels) directly on a memory card is a bad idea and may not work. Best practice is to copy the files to your hard drive, then edit as needed.
